Exciting news for romantic comedies fans! Makoto Kudo’s popular manga that has been sold over 550,000 copies “My Awkward Senpai” (Bukiyō na Senpai.) is set to receive a television anime adaptation in 2025. The announcement was made on Monday, December 16, 2024, through a newly launched teaser website, which unveiled a promotional video, teaser visual, and key staff and cast information.

The upcoming anime will be directed by Ayumu Kotake, known for his work on “Acro Trip,” with Studio Elle handling the animation production. Mio Inoue, who has previously worked on “Slow Start” and “Wonderful Precure!,” will be in charge of the series scripts. Character designs will be handled by Kenrō Tokuda, while Kōji Fujimoto will compose the music.

Lynn, a talented voice actress, has been cast to play the protagonist Azusa Kannawa, who is featured in the teaser visual. Azusa is described as the titular “clumsy senior” in this romantic comedy that explores the relationship between an awkward boss and her subordinate.

The story follows Kannawa-senpai, a character who is considered many things, but smooth is definitely not one of them. Her life takes an interesting turn when she meets Kamegawa, her new kouhai (junior). Described as cute, a little nerdy, and easy to talk to, Kamegawa’s presence begins to stir new feelings in the awkward senpai.

“My Awkward Senpai” began its journey on Makoto Kudo’s X/Twitter account in March 2019 before being serialized in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine in December of the same year. The manga has gained popularity since its debut, with eight compiled volumes published as of August 23, 2024.
