Anime fans, get ready for a mouthful! The light novel with a title so long it needs two sentences to complete is finally getting an anime adaptation. Yes, you heard that right – “The White Mage Who was Banished From the Hero’s Party is Picked Up by an S-Rank Adventurer: This White Mage is Too Out of the Ordinary!” is coming to your screens, “This White Mage is Too Out of the Ordinary!” would’ve been enough.
A Title That’s an Adventure in Itself
It’s almost comical how the anime industry continues to embrace these marathon-length titles. This particular gem takes the cake, requiring a full stop and a second wind just to get through it.
One can’t help but wonder if the characters will have time for any actual adventuring between introducing themselves.
Anime Adaptation Details
Futabasha’s Monster label is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a bang, announcing this adaptation on their commemorative website. Here’s what we know so far:
- Studio: Felix Film is taking on the challenge
- Director: Hiroshi Tamada will be guiding this verbose journey
- Script: Akihiko Inari is tasked with condensing that title into actual episodes
- Air Date: Mark your calendars for 2025
The Story Behind the Title
Once you catch your breath after saying the title, you’ll find a tale about Lloyd, a white mage who gets the boot from the hero’s party. But fear not! Our plucky protagonist stumbles into an S-rank adventuring group and discovers he’s actually pretty amazing at his job. It’s like being fired from a fast-food joint only to become a Michelin-star chef.
From Web to Print to Screen
This tongue-twister of a story began its life on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in March 2020, penned by Sora Suigetsu. It proved so popular that Futabasha picked it up for a light novel series, with DeeCHA providing illustrations. As of February 2024, six volumes are out there, challenging bookstore employees’ shelving skills.
Manga: For Those Who Prefer Pictures to Pronunciations
If reading that title leaves you breathless, there’s a manga adaptation too. Illustrated by Wasabi Mukuno (hopefully not related to the condiment), it’s been running since January 2021 on Futabasha’s Gaugau Monster website. Seven volumes are currently testing the structural integrity of manga store shelves.
As we eagerly await more details about voice actors brave enough to introduce their characters and potential subtitle formatting challenges, one thing’s for sure – this anime is set to be as extraordinary as its title suggests.
Stay tuned for the 2025 release, and maybe start practicing saying the name now. You’ll need the extra time.
