Critically acclaimed PlayStation game, Sony has officially announced an anime adaptation of “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends”. The announcement was made during Sony’s CES 2025 press briefing in Las Vegas, marking a significant expansion of the Ghost of Tsushima franchise into the world of anime.

Project Details

The anime series, slated for release in 2027, will be a collaborative effort between several powerhouse companies in the entertainment industry:

  • PlayStation Productions

The series will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno, known for his work on “Star Wars: Visions – The Duel” and “Batman Ninja.” Gen Urobuchi, acclaimed for his work on “Psycho-Pass,” “Fate/Zero,” and “Puella Magi Madoka Magica,” will be responsible for the series composition.

Interestingly, the anime will not focus on the main character of the original game, Jin Sakai. Instead, it will adapt the game’s “Legends” mode, a cooperative multiplayer component introduced as a later addition to Ghost of Tsushima.

This mode features four playable characters – a samurai, a ronin, an assassin, and a hunter – who band together to fight creatures from Japanese mythology.

Industry Reactions

The announcement has generated significant excitement within the industry. Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, emphasized the project’s significance, stating,

“This project is a testament to the creative synergy within the Sony family, uniting the expertise of PlayStation Studios and PlayStation Productions; the creative team of Sucker Punch Productions and Aniplex; Sony Music’s iconic global artist roster; and Crunchyroll’s fan-first global marketing and distribution footprint”.

Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, expressed enthusiasm about the adaptation, noting,

“Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project”.
