Minami will play the roles of YAIBA

A new TV anime adaptation of Gosho Aoyama’s manga “YAIBA” is set to hit the screens in April 2025. Titled “Shin Samurai Den YAIBA,” the series will air every Saturday at 5:30 pm on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV, immediately preceding the long-running “Detective Conan” anime at 6 pm.

This scheduling creates an hour-long block of Gosho Aoyama’s works, dubbed “Gosho Aoyama World.”

The anime brings together an impressive cast of voice actors:

  • Minami Takayama will reprise her role as Kurogane Yaiba, the protagonist, while also continuing to voice Edogawa Conan in “Detective Conan”.
  • Katsuyuki Konishi will voice Yaiba’s father, Tetsuken Juro.
  • Junichi Suwabe takes on the role of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
  • Manaka Iwami will play the heroine Mine Sayaka.
  • Yoshimasa Hosoya is cast as Yaiba’s rival, Onimaru Takeru.

“Shin Samurai Den YAIBA” is based on Aoyama’s swordplay action manga “YAIBA,” which was serialized from 1988 to 1993 in “Weekly Shonen Sunday”. The story follows the adventures of Yaiba, an unconventional young swordsman trained in the jungle by his father, as he returns to Japan and continues to hone his skills.Key points about the new anime:

  • It will be fully supervised by the original author, Gosho Aoyama.
  • This marks the first full animation of the series in about 30 years since the manga’s completion.
  • Production is handled by WIT STUDIO, known for “Attack on Titan” and “SPY×FAMILY”.

A second teaser PV has been released, showcasing Yaiba’s Raijinken and Onimaru’s Fuujinken in action. The voice actors have expressed their excitement about the project: Katsuyuki Konishi (Tetsuken Juro) said,

“YAIBA will be revived again in this Reiwa era! It’s so nostalgic! Whether you know YAIBA or not, I hope you’ll look forward to it!”

Junichi Suwabe (Miyamoto Musashi) commented,

“The character is quite comical, so I’m having fun playing him. I auditioned for the role properly (laughs). Please look forward to it!”

With its blend of nostalgia and fresh animation, “Shin Samurai Den YAIBA” promises to be an exciting addition to the Saturday evening anime lineup, creating a double feature of Gosho Aoyama’s beloved works.
